Today is the Feast Day of St. Dominic

He's a patron of shepherds, so I suppose, indirectly, we should all be celebrating, too.

So, so many St. Dominics. This one is Dominic of Silos. He supposedly provides protection against mad dogs insects, rabies, and also protects pregnant women. Which is why my Mom's cousin, the (occasionally blasphemous) Monsignor, calls him "St. No-Biting", and directs his soon-to-be-father parisioners to ask St. Dominic to protect them from their wives, should they get nippy.
Why do I know these things, and what did I lose to learn them?
