Adventures in sock knitting

Cat Bordhi is a lunatic. I bought her book on socks at Stitches Midwest. I'm enthralled. I want to quit my job and make Cat Bordhi's socks. All of them. Here's a little baby sock I made for practice. The increases are nowhere near where they usually go. That's the point of her book - you can put them all sorts of cool places.

Here's a big sock. Socks That Rock Highway 30. I love the linen stitch cuff. I would like to be a fly on Cat Bordhi's wall to see if everything else she does in her life comes out so interestingly. Does she wash her clothes in the dishwasher? Does she make breakfast cereal from pencil shavings? What next, Cat, what next?

(This sock got me so excited I forgot how long my foot is and made it an inch too short, so I have to rip out the toe and reknit it, but that's beside the point.)

There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I read somewhere that Einstein had all the same color socks, because for a while there, his brain was so full, that he could't be bothered with such nonsense as making sure his socks were the same color. Not to say that Cat is Einstein, but hmmm.

I have lusted after the book since I saw Cat on Knitty Gritty earlier this year. I still haven't given in, but you are weakening my resolve.

Gosh, for a second there I thought you were going to be making an announcement.

To be quite candid, I don't like the way the big sock looks on your foot. Maybe it's the photograph, but I think it lacks the elegance of the traditional shaping.

I'm glad you're having fun though!

Laurie - I think part of the problem with that sock is my mad photography skillz, and the other part of the problem is that the foot is really too short. I'm not sure it fits any *better* than other types of socks, but I also don't know how much of that is the sock and how much is me needing to fix the toe.

I just love the various fibers and half knit items scattered throughout the background!

I'm going to have to break down and try the Cat Bordhi stuff now. Also, after seeing your linen stitch, I'm completely in love with it and want to put it in a heel flap immediately.
Thanks for the kind words. I should get you guys to set me up with a knitter.

I refuse to ponder the complexities of Cat's new book until I overcome my current sock curse. Otherwise, I may permanently break my sock juju.

I have to do more than one sock in the first place before I can get going on a whole book of them... But I would like to know the yarn and colorway of that baby sock. It's purty.
