hrm... well - hope that works out. (just thinking about how cooperative Angus seems and wondering....)

I think the Fool assumes Angus is the smartest of the cats and therefore the one most likely to rise to the challenge. And then I think he's hoping the other cats will see what Angus is doing and imitate him.

Has the Fool seen Charles Mingus' cat toilet training program? I read about it in his autobiography, but it' also online here: http://www.mingusmingusmingus.com/Mingus/cat_training.html

I have no doubt that Argus, being the smartest of all cats, will be obstinate enough to only use the toilet when he WANTS to, instead of all the time. I can't wait to find out...

oh sweet FSM, is he (the fool) crazy.?.

somehow I don't see angus taking this lying down...

Toilet training the cat that bites armpits? Oh my. Yeah, that is it, oh my.

It can totally be done. I strongly recommend the "CitiKitty" or some variation of that name (forgive my laziness in not looking it up) and taking a really LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time. I also strongly recommend not getting all smart and deciding to install an auto-flusher on the toilet. It turns out that some cats, when they fear things (like evil haunted toilets that are trying to swallow an innocent kitty whole) will give themselves a near fatal bladder infection because they won't go near the demon potty . . . and are too well behaved to soil anywhere else.
Ask me how I know.

Oh, and beware teaching them to flush on their own. Evidently it's a very exciting game.
Ask me how I know.

I can't help it, I'm laughing out loud. Did The Fool finally decide to settle into his name?

OK, I trained a cat to come from two blocks away when I called for him, and he always obeyed... but my cat didn't bite me or act otherwise in a wild fashion. Mine wanted to be mine.

Good luck, in any case.

OK, robynr, I do want to hear about your various adventures ... especially why it's a bad idea to teach cats to flush.

I don't know whether this is a stroke of brilliance or a really bad idea. I look forward to reports on the endeavor . . .

Teaching a cat to flush is a bad idea because they are fascinated by moving water. So, constant flushing.

Yep, Ivyleaves is right. With our two, the fun of the moving water was intensified by our male's belief that he had to supervise all toilet related activities because the toilet, once he learned to use it, was *his*. Incidentally, his interest has waned in the year-plus that they've been back on the box.
