Knitters in the wild!

Last night, the Fool and I drove into Chicago to try to hear Uncle Earl, one of our favorite bands. They're an all-girl old-time band and they're just huge fun. Between the cold and the fact that my company laid me off last week*, we decided we could use some huge fun.
Next time, I'm going to listen to the Fool and call ahead and reserve tickets for the huge fun, because the show was sold out.
So as not to waste the trip into the city (it had snowed and so traffic was bad, too!) we decided to go to Julius Meinl and have hot drinks** and dessert. That's where we saw a whole table of knitters in the wild! We were talking and knitting socks, but didn't go introduce ourselves. ***
But we spotted 'em.

* It's not as bad as it sounds; I didn't like my job much anyway, I was sort of half-assedly looking for something better, my severance package is excellent and I'm going to look for work in either technical writing or book publishing, whichever field will have me. Don't worry. We're fine. We don't have to sell the stash.
** I had this thing which was hot apple cider mixed with blackberry juice -- yum. Definitely worth trying to recreate at home.
*** Due to generally rough day as well as rough week, I was feeling very shy and not like meeting new people at all. Although the Fool was all ready to go bounding over like a big sock knitting golden retriever.

I haYte it when I flip into 'suddenly shy' mode, it's so weird. I like the the description, "bounding over like a big sock knitting golden retriever" - you should get footage of that sometime and post it for us =))

That blackberry/apple cider stuff sounds SO good!

That's actually my regular knitting group, but I wasn't there yesterday. We meet there every Wednesday, if you want to drop by sometime...

I laughed out loud when I read "big sock knitting golden retriever." As little as I have seen the Fool in person, I can this description in him. And I can see you shaking your head, too.

Mmmm... Did the knitters spy you? They were probably shy too. Or maybe they don't like dog slobber....

I, too, laughed out loud when I read "big sock knitting golden retriever." I even made a snort and possibly blew a snot bubble. Definitely the highlight of my day.

I love Julius Meinl, too. The hot chocolate!

Why is it that you only see those when you don't feel like being social? I bet the next time you go out, and you're all into it, you'll see no one.

Oh, a trip into Chicago is fun no matter what it turns out to be.

Best of wishes on your career/job change. I have found that things always get better or at least more interesting... hope the same for you.

"A big sock-knitting golden retriever" -- LOL!

Good luck with the job hunt. I am sure you will find something far more interesting -- silver linings and all that.

BTW, why can't we go against the grain of Miltonian tradition and say, "golden linings" or "jade linings" or even "green porcelain linings"? These are definitely warmer, richer colors than silver.

Never mind...

I, too, have to comment on the "bounding over like a big sock knitting golden retriever" bit. Great imagery. :D

I miss you guys.

I sure wish that my parents' golden retriever was a sock knitter! He's cute, but totally useless.

Yipe! No fair, a lay-off and a lack of show tickets all bundled up like that. I do that random shyness thing to, which most people who know me have a hard time believing.

Wishes for a good new gig coming your way.
